Scaling Up Anticipatory Action in Africa: Opportunities, Enablers and Barriers

PANEL

Anticipatory action is gaining momentum in Africa with many different pilots being implemented by various humanitarian and development organisations in cooperation with Governments. There is now wide agreement on the need to scale up the anticipatory action approach to protect lives, livelihoods and development gains and build resilience to the increasingly frequent and extreme weather and climate events. But how can governments and practitioners scale up anticipatory action in Africa? What are the opportunities, enablers and barriers to scaling anticipatory action and how can these be addressed? The presentations and panel discussions in this session will reflect on these questions based on experiences from various initiatives in Africa.
